The Charles A. Hines Oral History Transcript consists of a 130 page transcribed oral history interview. He discusses leadership and officers in the U.S. Army. He recounts some of his tour in Vietnam with the 90th Military Police Detachment. According to Hines, S-3 Operations Officer Roy J. Hurdy, Jr. had the most influence on him when he was a company grade officer. Hines discusses his assignment as Chief, Plans and Operations Division in Korea. He mentions he wanted to return to Vietnam but was sent to Korea. He also details his days as a student at the U.S. Army War College (USAWC), the quality of instruction, and his time on faculty which culminated with his study of women in the Army. Hines further discusses issues of sexual harassment in the Army. Hines recounts becoming a general, discusses the value of the ROTC, and shares his experiences as commandant of the Military Police School. He also reveals the treatment he received as an African American in the Army.

Major General (MG) Charles A. Hines was born and raised in Washington, DC. He enlisted in the United States (U.S.) Army in 1954 and served through 1957.
